NEWARK, NJ — An application for an industrial energy project that has been met with pushback from the community will come before the Newark Planning Board in March.

The city planning board adjourned the project on Monday where the applicant, Aries Clean Energy, was slated to present its application. The applicant's project plans to construct a facility that will convert human waste into a product known as biochar and be located in Newark's Ironbound, an area already loaded with manufacturing and pollution.

The board approved to adjourn the hearing after a written request from Deputy Mayor and Director of Economic and Housing Development Allison Ladd was submitted, which called for more community engagement and time for the environmental commission to review the project.
